There’s a hard way and an easy way – well not quite as hard anyway. Down here the hardware stores are called Ferreterias and most of them do not have everything. Thus it is often necessary to visit two or three or four of them before finding what you need. Remember this is what you moved for; to see how people in different cultures live. Time is not the issue for Panamanians that it is for many europeans and North Americans so relax and enjoy the “shopping” experience.

Some of the bigger ferreterias where you will find a lot of what you need include Duet, Cochez, Novey and Rodelag, but be prepared to try several little ones as well.
